During Advent, we recognize our desperate need for a savior, our desperate need for hope. This is different than hype. The Christmas season offers all kinds of hype: presents and parties, cheery songs and heartwarming movies. Hype is short-lived. Hope lasts forever. In Advent, we realize that hope has a name. His name is Jesus. He is the promised one who has entered into the story and into our world to bring hope and healing to a people who desperately need it. The announcement of Advent is simple: hope is here.
